The module checks whether invoicing is possible and saves the result.
What does your store gain?
Explore the module's features, use cases, and settings.
Automatic invoices for COD and orders ready for fulfillment
Kowal Auto Invoice for Magento 2 automatically creates an invoice for orders that do not need to wait for standard payment confirmation. It works well for cash on delivery (COD), deferred payments, and B2B processes where the warehouse can start fulfillment immediately.
In the configuration, you specify payment and shipping methods. When an order meets the condition, the module creates a Magento invoice and allows the order to move to processing.
COD and deferred payments
Automate scenarios where the lack of immediate online payment should not block fulfillment.
Payment or shipping
An order can qualify based on at least one configured payment or shipping method.
Multistore
Adapt settings to Store View and different sales processes running in a single Magento installation.
What does the fulfillment team gain?
Less manual order opening and invoice issuing, faster transfer of orders to the warehouse, and a more repeatable workflow. The module protects against duplicate invoice creation and does not automatically mark the invoice as paid — which matters for COD, among other scenarios.
Key features
- automatic invoicing for selected payment and shipping methods,
- support for COD, deferred payments, and custom logistics scenarios,
- works for orders placed in the storefront, via API, or through the admin panel,
- configuration per Store View,
- no changes to checkout,
- protection against creating a second invoice for the same process.
Who is it for?
For Magento 2 stores that want to send cash-on-delivery, B2B, or other orders that do not require immediate online payment to fulfillment faster.
Configuration and OR condition
Stores → Configuration → Sales → Auto Invoice lets you enable the module, select payment and shipping methods, and configure diagnostics for Store View. By default, the module is disabled and the method lists are empty.
A payment or shipping match is enough. Choose the lists carefully: a selected delivery method can also qualify an order with a different payment method.
No capture and with Magento control
The module uses InvoiceOrderInterface with capture = false. It does not collect money or confirm that the order has been paid; canInvoice checks whether an invoice can be created.
For existing or partial invoices, the result depends on the remaining quantities available for invoicing and Magento mechanisms. Integrations that change the order state require checking the shared process.
Notifications and diagnostics
The current code respects Notify Customer passed to the Magento invoicing service. By default, the option is disabled; automatic invoice creation does not mean an email is sent by default.
Debug records method matching, invoicing availability, and the result in var/log/kowal_auto_invoice.log. An invoice creation error is caught and logged; check the result for the appropriate order channel.
Installation via Composer
Package kowal/magento-2-auto-invoice, module Kowal_AutoInvoice. After configuring access to the Kowal repository, install the package, enable the module, update Magento, and clear the cache. In production, include compilation and static content deployment according to the store's process.
From configuration to result
1. Select methods in the configuration
You match the condition to your fulfillment process.
2. A new order is created
A payment or shipping match is enough.
3. Magento registers the invoice
The module checks whether invoicing is possible and saves the result.
Cash-on-delivery order ready for the warehouse
In the configuration, you select the COD method. After a matching order is created, the module requests a Magento invoice without collecting payment.
The invoice does not confirm payment. The subsequent order state results from Magento mechanisms and the store's process.
