The Kowal Google Fonts Installer module is a solution that lets you easily integrate any font from the Google Fonts library into your Magento 2 store. With a simple and intuitive interface, you can quickly install and configure a new font, tailoring your store appearance to your brand needs.

Module features

Install any font from Google Fonts

Copy the font embed code from Google Fonts and paste it into the module configuration form.

Easy customization of LESS variables

After installing the font, you can quickly replace the font name in the LESS variable, for example:

@font-family-name__base: 'Roboto';

This applies the new font across the entire template.

Simple and intuitive interface

The module is designed so its configuration is easy even for users without development experience.

Compatibility with Magento 2

The module works with Magento version 2.4.7 and earlier.

Available as part of the Kowal Theme package

The module is available as part of Kowal Theme, making it an ideal choice for users of this template.

How to implement the module

Module installation

Install the module in your Magento 2 store using the instructions available in the module documentation.

Font configuration

  • Go to the Magento 2 admin panel.

  • Navigate to the module configuration section, for example Kowal Google Fonts.

  • Copy the font embed code from Google Fonts and paste it into the appropriate field.

  • Save the changes.

Replacing LESS variables

  • Open your template LESS files.

  • Find the @font-family-name__base variable and update it with the name of the installed font.

  • Recompile the LESS files so the changes are visible.

Verifying operation

  • Open the store frontend to check whether the new font has been implemented correctly.

Font loading and theme settings

In Stores → Configuration → Kowal → kowalfonts → settings, enable the module and save the Google Fonts code. The settings apply at the store view level. The module passes the saved code to the page header.

Assigning the font to store elements is handled in the theme styles. For themes using LESS, change @font-family-name__base and recompile the styles; themes with a different styling system require the appropriate configuration for that system. The module does not automatically download font files for local hosting.

Installation via Composer

Package: kowal/module-fonts; module: Kowal_Fonts. After configuring access to the Kowal repository, install the package, enable the module, run the Magento update, and clear the cache. For production mode, include compilation and static content deployment according to your store process.

From configuration to result

1. Choose a font
Prepare the embed code for the selected font in Google Fonts.

2. Save the configuration
Enable the module and paste the code into the google_fonts field.

3. Configure the theme
Assign the font family in the styles and deploy the changes.

One font, consistent presentation

Example for a LESS theme: you add the Roboto embed code, then set @font-family-name__base: 'Roboto'; in the theme styles.

After recompiling and deploying static content, check the store headings and body text. The module itself adds the font code, while the theme defines the appearance of the elements.

Questions and Answers

Question
Does the module make it easy to add Google Fonts to a Magento 2-based store without manually editing the theme?
Answer
Yes — the module allows you to select Google Fonts in the admin panel and automatically enable them in the store, without the need to directly edit theme files.
Question
Can I select specific font families and variants (“light,” “bold,” “italic”) in the module configuration?
Answer
Yes — the module usually offers the option to select a font family and assign it to a CSS class or store area, and it allows you to specify font variants (weight, style).
Question
Does installing the module require modifying Magento core files or the template?
Answer
No — the module works as an extension compatible with the Magento 2 architecture and does not require overwriting the system’s core files or making deep changes to the theme.
Question
After installing the module, can I assign a font to different parts of the store (headings, content, buttons)?
Answer
Yes — the module configuration allows you to assign fonts to different areas of the store, such as headings, body text, or buttons, which lets you match the typography to the brand style.
Question
Does the module support stores with multiple store views (“multi-store”)?
Answer
Yes — the module can be used in a Magento 2 environment with multiple store views or stores, and font configurations can be independent for different store views.
Question
Can adding Google Fonts affect the store’s loading speed, and does the module take this into account?
Answer
Yes — loading fonts from an external service can affect performance. The module usually includes recommendations or optimization options (e.g., loading fonts asynchronously, limiting the number of variants). It is always worth testing the store after installation.
Question
Can I set a system font fallback if Google Fonts does not load correctly?
Answer
Yes — typography best practices suggest setting a fallback font, and the module usually allows you to assign a CSS-style font stack with fallbacks.
Question
Does the module take privacy and GDPR-related issues into account when loading fonts from Google?
Answer
Yes — although the module makes it easy to add Google Fonts, you should keep legal considerations in mind — for example, loading fonts from Google's CDN may, under certain circumstances, require user consent or hosting the fonts locally.
Question
Can I use font files locally instead of loading them directly from Google?
Answer
Although the module’s main functionality focuses on Google Fonts, depending on the documentation, it may be possible to configure local fonts — it’s worth verifying this with the manufacturer.
Question
Do I receive technical support and updates after purchasing the module?
Answer
Yes — we provide technical support and access to updates for the modules.
